Beau Entertainment Extravaganza

Once upon a time in the caves of Searcy, an idea was originated. This idea was so good that it could be matched by no one. It was an idea encompassing a level of collaboration that this state has never seen before, an idea so original that its like has never been made–an idea to…make an anchorman spoof involving a bunch of beaux.

Crazy, I know, but it happened, and videos have been kept secret long enough, and now they are being unveiled to all the world, along with some pictures of the event. :P

Now, here’s the video:

There you have it.  I’m not a very good actor (to say it lightly) and my voice work needs work.  It’s okay though, I still think it turned out great.  The middle section of the video was passed around to the different beaux to do what they wished to it, so it was a neat collaboration project thing that involved a lot of cool guys.  :)

Here are some of the other videos:

  • Zeta Rho Video – Mark Baur edited this, and did a stellar job with taking the idea and running with it.  Good stuff.  =)
  • Delta Nu Video – More like, delta poo.  Got ‘em.
  • (more as I find them, if there are more)

Additional props go to:

  • DGR “most active beaux on campus” beaux for playing the video with no story added to the beginning or the end (basically 1:58 to 6:13), way to go.  ;)
  • JGJ beax for just using Delta Nu’s video…haha.
  • KJK for not even showing the video at all.  Hmmm.  By the way, why am I the only one that thinks “‘Parking lot’?  More like ‘parking less.’” is hilarious?
  • [non sarcastic] Brett Ellis for heading this up and doing a super editing / filming job.

If you have any more stories or anything of what was was shown at the different clubs’ functions/formals, shoot me a comment so that I can add to this and make fun of more people.  ;)

Imma straighten you out boy!

Cabot taking one for the team. Proud of him. :)

Spring Break, come and gone

Posted: March 16th, 2010 | Author: Jon Yoder | Filed under: Personal, photo, video project | Tags: , | 2 Comments »

Here I am again, back at school.  This time, I’m less motivated than ever.  I have a couple websites that I need to make, an art project I need to work on, some homework that’s due in an hour, but right now it’s just so hard for me to do school work.  College is great.  School, not so much.

Spring break was awesome.  I really love our group.  It was fairly diverse, and I got to grow closer to some people that I didn’t know very well before.  It’s kinda neat how being with a small group of people for a week makes them feel a bit like family.  It still is good to be back though, I just need to get back on track.  :)

I’ll have a couple posts about my spring break, but for now–just some more pictures (and a couple videos).

Our group after a clean-up project.

Our great group leaders. :)

The awkward couple...haha.

Jumping

I was experimenting with video a bit the trip.  Focusing is kinda weird on a DSLR, and the shallow depth of field can work for you or against you.  I don’t really mind most of the previous video being out of focus.  I just call it art.  :P   Also, my brother is pretty crazy.  I’ve been realizing that more and more lately.

Chicken verses Penguin, who would win?

Well obviously the chicken would win, but we won’t even go there. Anyway–some story. This one obscure camera company, Nikon, decided to head up a short-film contest about your life in a day. While this was obviously just a ploy to get some attention to their newer cameras ability to shoot in high definition (wow), and I didn’t really care about winning $100,000 for making the best video, since, to be honest, I’m not good, BUT the winner’s video is gold. Definitely one of my favorite short-films of all time, OF ALL TIME.

Here it is:

Old beaux entertainment videos

Posted: January 26th, 2010 | Author: Jon Yoder | Filed under: video project | Tags: , | No Comments »

I was looking through the (incorrectly named) Video Project category of this blog, and noticed that I didn’t have many of the Pi Theta Phi beaux entertainment videos up. So for the sake of completeness, here are the other videos that I made and/or filmed and/or was at least a part of.

The most recent beaux entertainment video. I like the editing a lot, so mad props to Brett, who’s just above the play button in the video preview. :P

Funniest videos, Box slideshow

Posted: May 10th, 2009 | Author: Jon Yoder | Filed under: muzing, photo | Tags: , , | No Comments »

If you like the show America’s Funniest Home Videos, this compilation of different videos by subject will keep you laughing for a while.  :-)

A few weeks ago I did a slideshow of the best pictures from this year to show at the formal.  I found out that I didn’t have as many group or happy pictures that I wanted (I certainly had enough pictures of sports), but everything worked out okay.  I also think that I overdid the sad factor a little too much.  The last slideshow that I did was for a week of senior high camp, and the idea there was to make them really happy at the beginning, then go to the sad stuff and try to make everyone cry. ;-)   This concept worked well at camp, with the slideshow being the last scheduled thing before everyone goes home.

I think that the exciting-to-melencholy outline for slideshows is still good, but at the formal, I don’t think that it worked as well as at camp.  After the slideshow was queen entertainment, which is supposed to be funny.  Having some really sad stuff beforehand might have been weird.  I’m probably overanalyzing it, but for next time I think that I’ll keep the happy-to-sad method, but make the sad part a little shorter and less intense.

And here are the videos by song:

Outtakes and such

Posted: May 7th, 2009 | Author: Jon Yoder | Filed under: Personal, video project | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Here’s the incorrectly labeled “blooper reel” from the previous post that is actually more like outtakes, but I didn’t care to fix it.  ;-)

All in all, the “Like a Beau” video was a ton of fun to do.  It was my first experience script-writing and brainstorming for lines, even though it was a parody, making it a lot easier.  I have also concluded that making things slightly amiturish works a lot better than making the video more professional.  I think that if we did a retake on the first introduction scene, redid (or actually) used the scenes toward the end that were according to plan/script.  The awkwardness is a lot funnier than an almost-perfectly acted video, and it’s easier to do, since acting is hard.  Just a thought.

Video Project Finished

Posted: January 7th, 2009 | Author: Jon Yoder | Filed under: Personal, video project | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Here’s what I was working on:

I know there are a decent amount of quirks that I couldn’t totally iron out, but as it being my first real project, I think it turned out pretty neat.

From the description I added on vimeo and youtube:
Messing around with a slideshow-type effect in After Effects. I just did a really rough pen mask (then feathered) in Photoshop, imported each 3-layer file into After Effects, and then went from there. All this took me a ridiculous amount of time to get to my liking (mostly), but I definitely learned a lot through the process. I would just never do it for a slideshow unless I was paid by the hour. :) Also, I wish Think Different” wasn’t an Apple slogan. I don’t mind the company (I like their products), but I chose to avoid that phrase in the video for moral reasons. ;)

Hmm, so I haven’t really come across a whole lot that I considered blog-worthy, but here’s a little something cool. Have a nice day. ;)
